E. Carroll Joyner Park — Wake Forest’s Most Versatile Maternity Location
If I had to pick one location near Wake Forest that works for almost every mama, every season, and every style — it’s Joyner Park.
This park has everything: open meadows with room to breathe and move, tree-lined paths that filter light beautifully, a working farm backdrop that adds warmth and texture, and enough variety that you can shoot multiple looks without moving your car.
The golden hour here — roughly 7:00–8:00pm in summer and 5:30–6:30pm in fall — is absolutely stunning. The open fields catch the light at that low angle and make everything feel cinematic.
Best for: Dreamy, natural, golden-hour sessions. Works beautifully for couples, solo mama sessions, and families with older kids.
Heads up: The park is popular on weekends. I always recommend weekday evening sessions here when possible.
DeHart Botanical Gardens — Hidden Gem Near Louisburg, NC
This one surprises people. DeHart Botanical Gardens, located just outside Louisburg, NC, is one of the most genuinely beautiful maternity locations I’ve ever used — and most families in the Triangle have never heard of it.
You get lush, layered greenery, brick pathways, and soft dappled light that photographs like a dream. It feels more intimate than a public park, which means fewer strangers walking through your session background and a more relaxed atmosphere overall.
The drive from Wake Forest is easy — about 20 minutes — and for the right mama, the images we get here are unlike anything else in the area.
Best for: Garden-style sessions with a romantic, lush feel. Especially beautiful in late spring and early fall when the foliage is full.
Open Fields and Country Roads Near Youngsville and Franklinton
There is something about the light over an open field at golden hour that nothing else can replicate. Long grasses, wide sky, and that warm low light wrapping around a baby bump — it’s one of those combinations that makes for truly timeless maternity photos.
The area around Youngsville and Franklinton has pockets of beautiful open farmland and country roads that I love for this exact reason. These locations tend to be private or semi-private, which means your session has an unhurried, just-the-two-of-you quality that’s hard to get in a public park.
Best for: Mamas who love a wide, open, romantic feel. Stunning for couple-focused sessions.
Your Home — More Powerful Than You’d Think
This one gets overlooked constantly, and I genuinely don’t understand why.
An in-home lifestyle maternity session captures something none of the outdoor locations can: your actual life. The bedroom where you’ve been nesting. The nursery you’ve been building. The kitchen where your partner keeps refilling your water glass and pretending not to worry.
These sessions are intimate, real, and — in my experience — the ones clients end up treasuring most twenty years from now.
If your home has good natural light (windows that let in morning or afternoon sun), it’s absolutely worth considering as your primary location, either on its own or combined with a short outdoor session nearby.
Best for: Lifestyle-focused mamas, intimate couples sessions, and anyone who wants something that feels distinctly and uniquely them.
Studio Sessions — When You Want Comfort Over Everything
North Carolina weather is beautiful about 70% of the time. The other 30%? It’s either freezing, raining, or July.
For mamas who want a gorgeous maternity session without the variables — no heat, no bugs, no “what if it rains” anxiety — a studio session is the answer. My studio is conveniently located near Wake Forest and designed to be a calm, private, beautifully lit space where you can fully relax.
If you’re exploring outdoor or studio options across the wider Triangle area, you can see the full experience on the Raleigh maternity photographer page — including session details, timing, and what the full experience looks like from start to finish.
